The Pavilion is hidden behind the museum building and is restfully located within the museum garden. It offers a multifunctional conference room on the ground floor and a guesthouse on the 1st floor.
The rooms in the guesthouse serve to accommodate researchers at Volkenkunde and at affiliated institutions. The rooms are not available to everyone.
The five comfortably furnished rooms each have a private shower, toilet, television and Wifi. The kitchen and living room are shared. The kitchen is fully equipped including a refrigerator, microwave, oven and gas cooker.
PLEASE NOTE: the minimum stay is two nights, a surcharge of €10,- per night is added when staying three nights or less.

The Pavilion has an extraordinary history. Built in 1876, it once accommodated patients suffering from infectious diseases who were nursed at the former University Hospital of Leiden, which now houses the museum collection.
During the 1930s the hospital relocated to a larger building after which Volkenkunde moved into the premises. Two of the three pavilions were demolished, the third one was converted into an official residence. Next, the Pavilion served all kinds of purposes varying from storage rooms to a library. It found its present use once the restoration work was finally completed in 2009.
