Gold is a rare precious metal with unique properties. It is resistant to corrosion, for example. Gold is used in jewellery ( 37%), in the financial sector (57%) and in technology (6%). Major producers include China, Australia and Russia. But goldmining is bad for people and the environment. One sustainable alternative is to recycle gold. This metal is highly suited to recycling, as it can easily be melted down. It does not deteriorate, and can therefore be reused endlessly.
