Summer vacation at the Wereldmuseum Leiden

Summer vacation at the Wereldmuseum Leiden

Let yourself be amazed this summer vacation at Wereldmuseum Leiden. Experience the “Time for Papua” exhibition with the Papua dice game. Turn your museum visit into a relaxing experience where you can look, draw, explore, ask questions, and play. Want to get creative? Join one of our workshops.

Workshop: Kolrosing, carving patterns into wood

Kolrosing is a technique used by the Sámi to decorate wooden objects. This summer at Wereldmuseum, you’ll learn more about this technique and carve your own patterns into wood. The Sámi are an indigenous people who often live above the Arctic Circle, in parts of Norway, Sweden, Finland, and Russia. Their culture has a rich tradition of craftsmanship, of which Kolrosing is a remarkable example. Patterns are carved into wood and then filled in with natural pigments, such as charcoal, so that the lines become clearly visible. Come join us and start carving!
