Social City Walk Leiden

On Monday evening, June 15, Leiden will transform into a walking meeting place for one night only. During the very first edition of the Social City Walk, you’ll join us on a walk through Leiden for a special evening filled with conversation.

Residents of Leiden who speak Dutch fluently go for a walk with people who are learning the language. The goal: to connect with people from different backgrounds and help newcomers feel at home in their new city. As many as 800 encounters are possible in a single evening.

One-on-one conversations that matter

On the 15th of June, you can join the Social City Walk Leiden organised by Stichting Walking & Talking. Wereldmuseum Leiden is the starting and ending point. You’ll walk through the city in a small group but will always have one-on-one conversations. Every 15 to 20 minutes, you switch conversation partners. In between, there’s a coffee break with music. This way, in a single evening, you’ll speak with four different people, each with their own story and their own reason for being in Leiden.

Not your average walk

The Social City Walk is neither a language class nor a guided tour, but a meeting tour of about 5 kilometers. Are you learning Dutch? Then it’s an accessible way to practice the language and experience Leiden. Do you already speak Dutch fluently? Then it’s an easy way to make a real difference and help someone feel at home in the city. No preparation is required to participate.
