Friday Afternoon Drinks with Pride Leiden

Join the Queering Evolution Theory workshop

Celebrate Pride Leiden at Wereldmuseum Leiden. During Pride Week, and on the weekend of the Canal Parade, you're warmly invited to join us for a relaxed Friday afternoon get-together with a creative twist. Be inspired by the work of artist Yuki Kihara and discover howa queer perspective can open up new ways of thinking about nature, science and diversity. Meet new people, enjoy a drink, and take part in this accessible workshop as you imagine a world where everything belongs – especially beyond conventional boundaries.

Tickets will be available on this page soon.

Queering Evolution Theory

What might a world look like if species could no longer be confined to fixed categories? In this creative workshop, you'll make image collages of fictional queer organisms: colourful, flamboyant and proudly beyond the norm.

The workshop takes its inspiration from Darwin Drag (2025) by Yuki Kihara. In this work, Charles Darwin makes a surprising confession: 'I kept a secret about the queer animal queendom.' Starting from this playful and thought-provoking premise, you'll explore evolution, diversity and the stories we tell about the natural world through a queer lens.

Over a drink, you'll create your own new 'species' and imagine a world where difference is not restricted but celebrated. No artistic experience is needed – just bring your curiosity.

This workshop is part of Pride Leiden and complements Yuki Kihara's exhibition at Wereldmuseum Leiden. Places are limited to 20 participants, so be sure to book in advance.
