Art Sundays X In Brilliant Light

Discover your inner artist

In September, Wereldmuseum Leiden is organising five art Sundays where visitors can get to work with art themselves. The source of inspiration is the exhibition 'In Brilliant Light' by guest curator Azu Nwagbogu. This expo celebrates the richness and diversity of contemporary art with masterpieces from Africa and the diaspora.

Activities on Art Sundays are free to visit. You only need a valid museum admission

Every Sunday between 12.00-17.00, you can engage in various workshops at various locations, such as cynanotype, fabric printing, pinhole photography, or join other visitors in filling a large canvas with drawings inspired by the work of Twins Seven Seven. You can also join special art tours, for example with artist Nilton Moreiro da Silva, who will show how artists provide answers to the most pressing questions of our time. Every Sunday there are workshops to do and at 14:00 there is a changing talk or tour.

Presentation on how In Brilliant Light came about. What content is covered and what has been Africa's influence on modern and contemporary art. Annette Schmidt (Curator of Africa collection) will tell you all about it.

In the exhibition In Brilliant Light, contemporary works by 34 artists show the richness and diversity of art from Africa and its diaspora. Guest curator Azu Nwagbogu combines masterpieces from the World Museum's art collection with recent work by contemporary artists outside the museum's collection. All the artists in the exhibition relate to their cultural history in their own unique way, creating new perspectives on the future and the past. Through their own visual language and using different themes, they claim visibility of Africa and its diaspora. For both its people and culture, and for their own place within the world of art.
