Michael Maier (1568-1622) was a doctor, alchemist, composer and advisor to the Habsburg Emperor Rudolf II. His Atalanta Fugiens contains 50 engraved emblems depicting the stages of alchemy.

Abraham Eleazar is the fictitious author of R. Abraham Eleazar’s Uraltes Chymisches Werk, which contains an extensive collection of alchemical techniques and experiments, as well as a description of alchemical philosophy, theory, symbolism and terminology.
