Your autumn holiday starts at Wereldmuseum Leiden. Be amazed this autumn break at Wereldmuseum Leiden! In our studio, you can create your very own pendant, inspired by a 1,000-year-old Peruvian mask. Using gold paper and sparkling ‘diamonds’, you’ll craft a beautiful piece of jewelry to wear right away—or secretly hide in your treasure chest.

This is your last chance to see the real mask in the Enchanted by GOLD exhibition, as the exhibition will soon leave Wereldmuseum Leiden.

You can also listen to the exciting story of Garuda and the Amrita, a tale full of adventure, courage, and a valley filled with shimmering gold. Or explore the magical world of gold with the family trail Goudzoekers, an adventurous treasure hunt for families with children aged 6 and up, where you join the brave dragon Auroria in search of her lost treasure.

And there’s even more to do! Make your own cheerful pull puppet for Día de los Muertos. A small preview of the big celebration on November 2nd at Wereldmuseum Leiden. Make your skeleton dance, laugh, and shine in all the colors of the rainbow.

Goudzoekers

Discover the magical world of gold with the family trail Goudzoekers. This adventurous treasure hunt is designed for families with children aged 6 and up. Together with the brave dragon Auroria, you’ll go in search of her lost treasure.

Your special backpack contains everything you need: a treasure map, fun challenges, and handy tools to help you uncover the mysterious and magical world of gold.

Workshop: Create a Pendant Inspired by a Peruvian Mask

The piece of jewelry you'll make is inspired by a 1,000-year-old artifact from Peru, featuring a mask. Masks were (and still are) worn during festivals. Using gold paper and colorful ‘diamonds’, you’ll design your own festive pendant.

Workshop: Make a Mexican Pull Puppet

On November 1st and 2nd, people across Mexico and around the world celebrate Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead). Families build altars at home with incense, photos, and offerings to remember loved ones who have passed away. Streets and houses are decorated with skeletons and skulls—often dressed like real people such as firefighters or musicians—and they always look cheerful.

Create your own skeleton pull puppet as a festive decoration for Día de los Muertos.

Storytelling: Garuda and the Amrita

Listen to a tale of Garuda and gold. Garuda is a mythological creature, often shown as a bird, and the mount of the Hindu god Vishnu. In this story, Garuda’s mother is captured by serpents—his eternal enemies. To save her, he agrees to retrieve the Amrita, the nectar of immortality.

But along the way, Garuda is tempted by a valley full of gold and gemstones. What is more valuable—gold, or his mother? Will Garuda succeed in freeing her?
